Power3Forensics Manages Forensic Strategy for Michigan Firms
(TROY - June 7, 2010) – More crimes are being committed using digital data than ever before. And as the number of these crimes increase, the laws relating to the use of digital data are also evolving.
That has led to a newly created group of collaborative experts who develop and perform sophisticated intelligence gathering and protection strategies for clients that both collects and preserves digital evidence.
Power3Forensics combines the expertise and knowledge of forensic accountants, computer forensic experts and investigative professionals from a collaboration of three leading professional service firms. Comprised of industry experts who also are partners with such respected firms as Doeren Mayhew in Troy, and Rochester-based Techmotives Consulting Group and Risk Security & Investigations, Power3Forensics provides clients with a cohesive team of resources that work together to create a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.
Most importantly, Power3Forensics gives clients a unique value –The Power of Knowing.
The State of Michigan recently modified the Professional Investigator (PI) Licensure Act to include language specifically referencing computer forensics. It now clearly states that a PI license is required to conduct investigations involving electronic evidence. Power3Forensics meets the requirements of this act.
"What sets us apart is that we can uncover all types of information to help support clients needs, which often can be part of a litigation matter or other forensic investigation,” said Power3Forensics Director Bruce Knapp. He runs the forensic accounting and business valuation division and is a director with Doeren Mayhew.
“Our holistic approach allows us to obtain relevant data and information from various sources and determine whether that information is reliable, putting you in the strongest position possible,” Knapp said.
With decades of combined experience in their fields, Power3Forensics professionals are experts in handling evidence and reporting findings. They work closely with lawyers and their clients to uncover information that can be used to support specific goals. And they handle information derived from each case with the highest level of confidentiality.
“In order for electronic evidence to stand up to a challenge in court, it must be collected, preserved, and analyzed properly” said Director Jim Carter, who runs the computer forensics division of Power3Forensics and is the president of Techmotives Consulting Group.
“We work with clients to develop and execute a sound strategy for getting the most value out of electronic evidence,” he added.
The professionals who comprise Power3Forensics delve far beyond the financial data by also providing insight that helps to make sense of available digital information. This level of insight gives clients added information, which in turn leads to more effective management of corporate strategy.
Indeed it is this “power of knowing” that sets Power3Forensics apart said Director Mark Ford, who manages the investigative services division of Power3Forensics. Ford also serves as president of Risk Security & Investigations.
“Each of our three divisions provides clients with a high level of strategic consultation, industry knowledge and technical know-how,” Ford said. “We keep up with what is relevant in the industry and all of our techniques and methodologies are considered best-of-breed.
“What is of specific note for lawyers is that evidence collected by a computer forensics agency or professional that is not licensed may be subject to a legal exclusion should it be tested in court,” Ford said.
Power3Forensics professionals collectively have numerous certifications in such specialties as forensic and public accounting, business valuation, computer forensics and professional investigations. This level of experience gives clients a stronger legal and business position backed up by evidence generated from financial data, digital information and personal surveillance.
