Closing the Gap for Women in Manufacturing

Clarkston, MI - Over the next decade nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs likely will need to be filled, and the skills gap is expected to result in 2 million of those jobs going unfilled. Although women constitute manufacturing’s largest pool of untapped talent in the U.S., they are underrepresented in nearly every American manufacturing sector, according to a study called “The Women In Manufacturing Gender Gap.” (The Manufacturing Institute, APICS, and Deloitte).

Late last year, Intellitrends on behalf of Plante Moran and Women in Manufacturing (WIM), surveyed more than 500 women in manufacturing and 350 young women entering the workforce to get their gauge of how well manufacturing companies are doing at attracting, retaining and advancing women to close this gap.
